TekFest

For my social software I chose MySpace. I've heard of MySpace before, but thought it was more of a gimmick for teenagers. After creating a "space" I think of it like a garden. You can plant many things in it, but it's something that needs to be weeded out on a regular basis. It's a repository where you can keep in one location your profile, mail, photos, videos, blog, favorites and lots of extras to fill your MySpace. You can invite your friends to your MySpace site and you can let people know of your mood (which may be handy if you're in a bad mood) and learn all type of information about you. I really do not like the many ads and soft porn-like sites/photos on the site. You can set your profile to private, to limit the amount of information allowed to be viewed by "non-friends." For me personally, I can't see maintaining my MySpace site. Co-workers of mine update their sites and use the features on a daily basis. I think that parts of the site seems a bit seedy. Just my opinion.

I can see a use for distance learning courses. MySpace could be used for discussion, viewing photos, videos and for blogging without having to upload to a course management system such as Blackboard or WebCt. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone is using MySpace in their distance learning courses.

I'm still working on my presentations, so they won't be posted until sometime on Friday. Unfortunately, all of my presentation trials have expired so I'll be using good old Powerpoint. :)

Discuss the Experience- Module 4

Once I got started on this module, it only took me two weeks and much procrastination since I hate the sound of my voice, I found that overall the experience was relatively painless and very rewarding. It was good to have to go back and use some of the programs/tools that we learned about in earlier modules. I'm was fascinated to read about some of the podcasts that my other classmates subscribed to in the podcasting module. I found some incredible podcasts and tools while searching for podcasts that I plan to share. I posted info. on Voice Thread in my Blog, as well as the discussion board. I do like to visit YouTube and it blows me away on what is there.

I did want to mention that my other minor problem was with Audacity non responding and closing whenever I would re-record my audio. But, you get what you pay for and it was only a minor nuisance.

At this time, I only found Sally's podcasts posted on the discussion board. I liked it and it gave me a personal connection with Sally. I did notice that there were some non-working Blog urls in an earlier discussion board. I enjoyed reading Sally's, Brett's and Laura's. I thought that they were organized and I enjoyed learning about my classmates.

I have to admit that I'm no longer afraid of podcasting. Do I have the voice for it, no way, but you at least get a sense of who I am. Goodnight Everyone.

Voice Thread

As I was working on the Podcasting module for the Advanced Technologies course that I am currently taking, I came across a really cool site Voice Thread
http://voicethread.com/ It's an online media album that holds different type of media and allows people to make comments and via voice, text, writing tool or webcam. It's free for K-12 instructors or $60 per year. Check it out.
